Scholarships for Culinary Education

The Minnesota chapter of LDEI has provided Minnesota women with scholarships for Culinary Education for the past 15 years. We have given over $20,000 in scholarships over the last eight years. We strive to raise funds to reach more students with the financial support they need to finance their college education.

Our scholarships are given to qualified female applicants pursuing fulltime academic coursework in the fields of culinary arts, hospitality, nutrition, agriculture and related areas of study.  The amount of each scholarship given is a minimum of $1,000.   Applicants are judged on their career and academic goals, past performance, leadership qualities, volunteer and community involvement, and references.

The following criteria must be met by students applying for this scholarship: they must be legal residents of the State of Minnesota or nominated by a member of the Minnesota Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier; they must be enrolled in, or accepted to, a full-time accredited institution of higher learning in the United States; and they must have at least one year’s prior experience in the food industry. In addition to experience and academic excellence, the financial need of each applicant is also considered.

Dame It Dollars:
Micro-Grants for Women in the Food Industry

The Minnesota chapter of LDEI formed a new micro-grant program in 2017 for the support and professional development of local women currently working in the food industry.

Women in the food and fine beverage industries often face long hours, low-pay and difficult working conditions. These one-time grants aim to provide career support for professional development including, but not limited to:

  • Short-term classes including certification courses
  • Industry conference fees
  • Professional uniform or equipment purchases
  • Online courses

The new program has been a success as we were pleased to award grants to seven women for a total of over $3,000.00 in our first year!

The Micro-Grants are competitively awarded by a panel assessing the applicant’s career goals, leadership qualities and perceived need. The amount of each grant may vary depending on the specific amount requested and the funds available.

The next grant application period will be announced soon – watch this space for details! Grant applications may be submitted at any time throughout the year.  Download application: Dame It! Dollars Micro-Grants 2019
